Merchants Must Apply To State For Liquor By The Drink License
Lawrenceburg leaders pointed out Thursday that the city government will have no involvement in the issuance of licenses for on-site consumption of liquor, and that local merchants interested in obtaining such a license must do so at the state level.
The liquor by the drink referendum was approved by voters during the City of Lawrenceburg’s May 3 election. City Attorney Alan Betz explained to members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council Thursday morning that once the election results are certified, individuals may begin to apply for sales licenses.
Members of the Lawrence County Election Commission were scheduled to meet Thursday in order to certify the results locally. The results will then be passed along to the state election commission for state certification.
Once the results are officially certified, Betz explained, merchants interested in offering on-site consumption must make application through the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission in Nashville.
