The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public of phone scams.
The departments phone number is being used to impersonate deputies. Recent reporting stated, individuals are posing as deputies stating they work with the agency and informing people they have a warrant for missing court.
The scammer will then suggest that the person does not need to go to the jail but they will need to pay a certain amount of money.
They will then suggest to draw the money out of the bank and then go to a nearby crypto currency kiosk at a convenience store where they can wire the money to the recommended account.
The most deceiving part is the scammer uses an app to make them appear to be from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office with the exact same number.
Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office will never call you about a warrant or ask for any kind of payment over the phone. If you receive a phone call like this, immediately hang up and call the sheriff’s office at 256-760-5757 to report the incident.
