Subject: Good Samaratin Assists Victim from Burning Vehicle

On 4/25/2026 at approximately 8 PM Lawrence County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle crash with entrapment on Bluff Road in the Westpoint Fire District. Initial dispatch information indicated to responders that the vehicle was on fire with the driver still inside the vehicle.

During our response we were advised that the 911 caller was able to help free the victim from the burning vehicle.

Prior to the arrival of our units the driver of the vehicle became combative and ran away from the scene and into the woods. First arriving units from the Westpoint FD quickly extinguished the vehicle fire, and assisted in searching for the driver of the vehicle.

Our units along with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Lawrenceburg Fire Department Drone Team searched the area for several hours utilizing thermal imaging cameras, night vision goggles and a drone equipped with FLIR. The teams were able to conclude that the driver had fled the area.
The driver of the vehicle was later taken into custody by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for unrelated outstanding warrants.
We want to thank the 911 caller who stopped and assisted the driver from the burning vehicle. She put her life in danger to help someone that she did not know. It is likely that her actions saved the life of the driver whose mental state was obviously altered.
