Results from the Lawrenceburg City Council Meeting

The Lawrenceburg City Council met this morning Thursday, April 24th at 9:00 AM in the Council Meeting Room in the Municipal Complex located at 25 Public Square.

The agenda included several ordinances and resolutions. Ordinances include the second reading of ordinance number 1404 entitled budget appropriations of revenue and expenditures for the 2024-2025 fiscal year for the City of Lawrenceburg. The desire to amend the budget is in the amount of $543,750.00.

Next, is the first reading for zoning ordinances for the City of Lawrenceburg is property belonging to Brady Saunders located on the North side of Johnson Street and on the South side to Tipton Street to be rezoned from a Medium Density Residential District to a High Density Residential. Discussion was raised on reasoning for the zoning and if it is appropriate to proceed with. Also, ways to notify the public during rezoning was discussed.

This will be entered for a second reading in the May 22nd meeting. Next was adopting the annual budget and tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1st, 2025 and ending June 20th, 2026. The ordinance was adopted. The ordinance will take effect the first day of July with public welfare requiring it with a hereby levied property tax of $1.0976 per $100.00 of assessed value on all real and personal property.

Resolutions included entering into a contract with KCI Technologies to create a future land use and major thoroughfare plan. The resolution did pass. With this contract, more housing can be developed with the consideration of roads and utilities. The plan will require consideration for where the city boundaries will and will not grow and after planning and meeting with Lawrence County’s first City Engineer, Matthew Brown, a future plan can be laid out to assess expansions and additions. Next was declaring certain property in the public works department as surplus. The resolution did pass.

This includes a new Holland backhoe, Grasshopper, and two new trucks. Lastly, was approving the lease agreement between Lawrence County and the Tennessee Board of Regents on behalf of Columbia State Community College. The resolution did pass and the terms of the lease will commence on July 1st, 2025 and shall end on June 30th, 2026.
