The Business Professional Women of Lawrence County honored 5 local women during their annual AP Diamond Banquet.

The AP Diamond Award was is in honor of Ann Poag, a Marine veteran, and former nurse about to celebrate her 90th birthday.

After Poag retired she went on to participate in numerous charitable and political causes.

The evenings ceremony was an opportunity to recognize women for their contributions to the community, as well as recognize the impact these women like Poag have on Lawrence County, and The ceremony was led by Beth Blasingim, President of BPW and Jessica Yokley.

Also Sara Bowden Threet was honored for her work as the first female bank vice president in Lawrence county showing women they could move past the front counter and lead businesses. Amandia Long was honored for her breast cancer fundraising through her annual Boobie Ball which has raised over $32,000 to fund undergarments, supplies for women fighting breast cancer, and mammograms for the underprivileged. Vicki Engelhardt was honored for her work as director of the Housing Authority, as well as the backpack and Christmas program she organizes for the children who live in housing. Teresa Purcell was honored for her years of service as the county's Finance and Budget Director, as well as her work with the homeless and other underprivileged citizens in the county. Stacie Odeneal was honored for her work in adoption and child welfare law by two young men who became brothers because of her.
