Subject: MVA with Extrication/ Day Crew Response

At approximately 2:47PM on April 14,2026 Lawrence County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a two vehicle motor vehicle crash on Highway 64 East near Marable Rd.
Our units quickly arrived on scene to find a two vehicle crash with significant damage to both vehicles. The drivers of both vehicles appeared to be critically injured and the driver of one of the vehicles was heavily pinned inside the vehicle.
Our personnel were able to quickly extricate the patient, assist with patient care, and safely establish and coordinate on scene landing zones for two medical helicopters.
This response is another testament to the LCFR Supplemental Day Crew Staffing program that began less than one year ago. This incident occurred during the time period of the day when volunteer availability is critically low, and when travel times for incoming personnel are drastically delayed due to traffic, school zones, ect. In this case our daytime staffing crew was able to respond immediately, arrive on scene within 6 minutes, and extricate a trapped victim within 12 minutes of the original dispatch time.
For context, the Day Crew staffed unit pulled out of the station 31 seconds after being dispatched to the call. The second unit responding out of the same station pulled out of the station 11 minutes later. This is to no fault of our volunteers. It simply takes longer to get to the station during these critical daytime hours when our volunteers have to respond to the station from their jobs instead of their homes.
We are thankful for the Lawrence County Commission, the Lawrence County Fire Rescue Board of Directors, and everyone involved for investing in, and believing in the supplemental staffing program. The program has already saved lives, and positively changed outcomes for those in need.
If your County hasn’t yet made the move to assist your volunteers with supplemental daytime staffing, we invite you and your commission to check out our program and even do a ride along.
Again, we are thankful to everyone in our community who invests in public safety.
