The Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD) recently announced that the Lawrenceburg Utility Systems has been awarded first place in the Best Tasting Water competition in Region Seven which consists of Decatur, Hardin, Lawrence, Lewis, Perry, and Wayne counties. The samples were judged on their clarity, bouquet, and taste.
The competition, held at Bradleys Restaurant in Waynesboro on April 7, was judged by Carmen Leister with Central Services Association, Roberta Rochelle with Bradleys Restaurant, and David Money with the TDEC Columbia Field Office.
In addition to the Lawrenceburg Utility Systems, the four other utilities that submitted samples from Region Seven were the City of Waynesboro, the Town of Linden and Waynesboro Water Systems. Lawrenceburg has won three of the four Best Tasting Water Contests since its inception in 2006.
TAUD is conducting the Best Tasting Water in Tennessee Contest in each of the eleven regions over the next few weeks. The winner of each region will participate in a statewide competition at TAUDs Annual Meeting at the Murfreesboro DoubleTree Hotel this June. The statewide winner will then compete in Washington, D.C. for the Best Tasting Water in America.
The Tennessee Association of Utility Districts is the oldest rural water association in the nation and serves as the Tennessee chapter of the National Rural Water Association. TAUD serves as a source of training, technical assistance, and acts as a legislative liaison to the over 420 water, wastewater, and natural gas utility members within the state.
