Construction is underway in Lawrenceburg on Monday for new business.

Crews are out early Monday morning building what will be Aldi in Lawrenceburg.

Aldi which stands for Albrecht Diskont, the stores original name when the company started in Germany.

Albrecht Diskont; Albrecht was the brothers' last name, and diskont (discount in English), to demonstrate the family's early commitment to low prices.

In 1961, the Albrecht Family founded the world's first discount grocery store in Germany. 16 years later in 1976, They opened the first ALDI store in Iowa.

Today, ALDI headquarters in Batavia, Illinois, where they have grown to more than 2,400 stores across 38 states with more than 45,000 employees, and now in Lawrenceburg.
