Be careful April is a common month for snake bites in Tennessee.

In the U.S snakebites are low, but in Tennessee the Copperhead is responsible for the majority of snakebites. With Temperatures warming up outside that means more snakes are coming out of hibernation.

Another common snake in Tennessee is the rattlesnakes, but luckily they all have pretty mild treatable venom. Also when a snake does bite there is a 50/50 chance that it will even inject venom.

The state Herpetolgical Society reports that most of our common snakes are lethargic and shy. Now if the snake is disturbed that is when it will vibrate it's tail which is what makes the rattling sound.

As more Tennesseans are getting out enjoying the warm weather just always be cautious of where you step since 85% of snakebites occur below the knee.
