Subject: Neighbors Helping Neighbors

This afternoon, Lawrence County Fire Rescue Units were dispatched to a report of a calf that had fallen into a cave. Personnel from LCFR and Lawrenceburg Fire responded to the scene.
Our personnel worked closely with members of the community to effect the rescue of the animal. Our personnel utilized air monitoring equipment to ensure that the air inside the cave was safe for first responders. They then built a rope system to lower rescuers down into the cave to assess for injuries and prepare the calf to be extracted from the cave.
Simultaneously members and citizens on the ground constructed a haul system to extract the calf. As a result of the work of everyone on scene the small calf was safely extracted from the cave. (See video in comments.)
Responding LCFR Stations include: LCFR Day Crew, Ethridge, and West Point.
While our personnel were operating on the animal rescue we received a mutual aid request for a structure fire response in Giles County. Members of the Crossroads and New Prospect Stations responded to the structure fire with Tanker support, and man power.
While traveling back to our County from the structure fire Crossroads Tanker 20 encountered a heavily involved vehicle fire on Hwy 64 in Giles County. Our personnel were able to stop and assist with the extinguishment of the fire.
Team work makes the dream work!
