4 weather-related fatalities confirmed after severe storms in TN

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Four people are dead following severe storms in Tennessee, officials confirmed early Thursday morning.

One weather-related fatality was reported in McNairy County, another in Obion County and two in Fayette County.

According to the Fayette County Emergency Management Agency, a trailer with a family of five in Fayette County was lifted off the ground after a tornado came through the southeast corner of the county.

Around 1:50 a.m., deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to a home on Sweet Road. They said a house had been struck by a tornado, and the residents were missing.

Fayette County EMA says first responders were dispatched immediately. When they arrived on the scene, a mobile home could be seen flipped upside down with the mother trapped.

Reports say she was then extricated and taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.

Four other family members were found a short distance from the home. A 16-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in critical condition, along with two other family members who were taken in stable condition.

The 48-year-old father was pronounced dead on the scene. The 16-year-old died later.

At this time, it is unclear if there are more fatalities due to the severe weather.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves said on Thursday morning that preliminary reports show damage in Tate, Marshall, Benton, and Tippah counties. He says DeSoto and Alcorn counties have also likely been affected.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is helping first responders across those Mississippi counties. There are currently no weather-related deaths confirmed in Mississippi, but we are working to gather more information.
