Woman arrested, man hospitalized after Colbert County officer-involved shooting

COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - A Colbert County deputy was involved in a shooting late Wednesday night after a traffic stop attempt turned into a motorcycle chase, according to Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine.

Balentine said a deputy tried to stop a motorcycle in the White Oak area near Cottontown Lane around 10 p.m. for an expired tag.

Authorities said the suspect was injured, and deputies provided medical care until an ambulance arrived. Officials were working to have the suspect flown out by air evac for additional treatment.

Balentine said the female passenger is in custody from an outstanding felony warrant. Adding that the driver had a misdemeanor warrant in Colbert County and a felony warrant for desertion from the Army out of Kentucky.

The deputy was not injured.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) was notified and is responding to investigate.
