Quarter ton of marijuana seized from sprinter van on I-40

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nearly 500 pounds of marijuana was found during a traffic stop along Interstate 40 in Haywood County on Wednesday night.

During the stop, officers quickly developed reasonable suspicion to search the Mercedes sprinter van, during which West Tennessee Drug Task Force agents “noticed an inconsistency in the wall between the front and rear of the van,” according to a release.

Agents used an X-Ray to review the wall panel and saw packages of drugs packed inside. They dismantled the wall and reportedly found nearly 1/4 ton, or 491 pounds, of marijuana and THC edibles concealed inside.

Investigators believe the suspect traveled from North Carolina to California and was on his way back to North Carolina when stopped by task force agents.

One man was taken into custody and is awaiting bond on the felony charge of delivery of schedule IV narcotics.
