Florence Alabama Police Department released updated information regarding officer struck by lightning.

The following update was released on Friday by the Florence Alabama Police Department:

"Yesterday, at approximately 3:30pm Officer James Piteo of the Florence Police Department was struck by lightning while placing barricades at the intersection of Chisholm Rd and Gresham Rd due to flooding.

A Ranger, riding with Officer Piteo, and other Officers were able to provide immediate first aid. Officer Piteo was then placed in the backseat of a police vehicle with a paramedic and rushed to NAMC where he received medical treatment.

Officer Piteo is still sore but, doing good. Officer Piteo and the Florence Police Department would like to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers."
