Former Lawrence Deputy Injured In Collision
A former Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy sustained injuries early Sunday morning when he became involved in a head-on collision while on patrol in neighboring Maury County.
Officials report Jason Runnels, now with the Maury County Sheriff’s Department, was patrolling in the area of Mooresville Pike and Harris Road in Southern Maury County around 4:00 a.m. when the crash occurred. Officials indicate Runnel’s vehicle collided with another as both vehicles topped a hill.
Both drivers sustained injuries in the crash and were hospitalized. Runnels was said to have sustained a broken leg.
Officials indicate the cause of the crash remains under investigation, but indicate weather could have played a factor.
