Update on apartment Fire

On March 22nd, 2019 at approximately 8:06 PM the Lawrenceburg Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire in an occupied apartment complex located at 1067 Old Florence Road. A first alarm response from Lawrenceburg Fire, and New Prospect Fire was initiated. Lawrenceburg Fire units arrived on scene within 4 minutes to find heavy fire conditions in a multi residence apartment building. Our units immediately encountered a critically injured occupant of the building, as well as the potential for trapped occupants. Our units began operating in active rescue mode, thus conducting a primary search of the entire building. During the search, our firefighters did enter the building with hose lines to hold the fire while one additional occupant was removed from the structure by members of LFD. A second alarm was transmitted at the request of the incident commander. The second alarm summoned a response of additional personnel from Ethridge,Leoma, Gandy, and Crossroads Fire Departments into the City.

Once the search, and rescue operations were completed, firefighters utilized the large aerial waterways on both Truck 1, and Tower 1 to aggressively extinguish the fire in the 10 residential units that were involved. During the operation, a third alarm was transmitted. The third alarm was a request for support services from Box 50 Responder Services Unit, and Henryville Fire Department’s breathing air unit. At approximately 11:33 PM the fire had been extinguished, and salvage, and overhaul operations were completed.

As a result of the incident, one victim with critical injuries was treated on the scene by Lawrence County EMS , and later flown by an Air Evac Medical Helicopter to the Vanderbilt Medical Center for advanced treatment. The progress of the fire was held to the building of origin, before it could spread to the adjoining buildings of the complex. In all, 10 residential units were heavily damaged, and considered a total loss. It is believed that 10 families were displaced as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lawrenceburg Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit.
