Authorities working to identify human remains found in Lauderdale County

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Authorities are investigating after human remains were found in Lauderdale County on Saturday.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 5000 block of County Road 10 after a property owner found possible human remains in a wooded area on the property.

Deputies confirmed the remains were human, and investigators, along with the Alabama Fire Marshall’s Office, carried out an excavation and collection of the remains.

The sheriff’s office will work with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to identify the remains and compare evidence to any active missing person cases.

An autopsy is pending.
