Burglars Take Safe From Leoma Diner
Burglars targeted a diner in the Leoma area overnight Monday, making off with a safe and causing damages.
The son of the owner of Anne’s Diner, 2311 Highway 43 South, placed a call reporting the crime at 9:30 p.m. He reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that as he drove past he had noticed a car parked in front of the business after hours, prompting him to pull in and check the premises.
Reports show that the culprit first attempted to enter the building by prying open the rear door, but was prevented from entering the business by a second metal door.
At that point, reports indicate an air conditioner was pushed inward at the rear of the building, allowing access to the interior. Once inside the burglar reportedly removed a small safe and tampered with the cash register.
Loss and damages were estimated to total $950. Investigation into the crime is on-going.
