Tennessee bill for debate that would cause jail time

Tennessee bill for debate that would cause jail time for failure to stop for school bus.

A Tennessee bill known as the "STOP Act" would allow for just under a year of jail time for drivers who fail to stop for a school bus loading or unloading children.

The bill would authorize a sentence of 11 months and 29 days in jail for any person who convicted of not stopping for a school bus while loading or unloading students. This can be combined or stand alone with a fine of $250 to $1,000 for the act.

The bill would also allow law enforcement agencies the right to install, operate, or use a third-party vendor to place video cameras on buses. The video recorded by the cameras would be used to detect and prosecute failure to stop violations.
