Resident Warns Of Travel Scam

A Lawrenceburg resident wishes to alert area residents to yet another scam that targets local citizens and their money.

The victim reports that he was contacted by telephone at his home on Thursday. The caller, who spoke with a heavy accent, informed the victim that he represented “Odyssey Travel” agency.

He indicated that the victim had been selected to receive gasoline vouchers through a give-away promotion. The vouchers were to total $200. In order to receive them, the victim need only provide him with his credit card information so that the agency might deduct a small $3.95 processing fee.

When the caller began asking questions about his credit card number, expiration dates, etc., the victim said he began asking questions, as well. He said that he hung up the telephone, but that the individual called back immediately.

In the end the resident did not give out any vital information and was out nothing. He warns residents who might be similarly targeted to exercise caution as well.
