Abusive Patient Taken Into Custody

A woman who became abusive toward the staff of the local emergency room was subsequently placed under arrest in the early hours Saturday morning.

Lawrenceburg Police Officers were dispatched to intervene in the situation shortly after 12:00 a.m.

Nurses at the emergency room reported that the woman had come to the facility seeking pain pills. When a doctor on duty refused to prescribe any, they report she became irate and began cursing nurses and the physician.

Officials indicated that the woman continued the tirade for some time, causing chaos and disorder for the staff.

The reporting officer indicated he witnessed the woman cursing at nurses, noting that she “appeared to be under the influence of some type of intoxicant.”

As a result the woman, Deborah Kay Oswalt, 53, of 507 Cecil Street, was placed under arrest on charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication and was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident.

Oswalt is scheduled to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Friday, April 3, 2009.
