(SHOALS INSIDER) A major economic development announcement for Northwest Alabama was made Monday as Tommy Tuberville revealed that the U.S. Navy will soon open a massive new facility in the Shoals.
Speaking during an update from Washington at the Von Braun Center, Tuberville announced that the U.S. Navy plans to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the coming weeks for a 2.2 million-square-foot subcomponents manufacturing facility in the Shoals area.
Local officials tell Shoals Insider that the Barton Railcar Plant in Barton, Alabama will serve as the future home of the facility. The project represents an expected $2 billion capital investment and is projected to create approximately 1,000 good-paying jobs for the region. “This is a game changer,” said one local official.
The facility, known as Factory 4, represents a significant investment in Barton and the surrounding region and is expected to play a key role in strengthening U.S. manufacturing tied to national defense and advanced industrial production.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for March 20 at the Barton facility. The landmark RSVP event will feature a special ceremony with remarks from senior government officials, along with live music and guided tours of the facility.
Organizers say the event will celebrate the people, technology, and industrial strength driving this next chapter of American manufacturing.
Guests attending the event will also have the opportunity to meet the Hadrian team, explore employment pathways, and see firsthand how Hadrian’s factory model is helping strengthen U.S. manufacturing — from precision components to mission-critical systems.
Local leaders say the development could be one of the most significant industrial investments in the history of the Shoals region, bringing both economic growth and new career opportunities to Northwest Alabama.
Additional details about the facility and its long-term impact on the Shoals economy are expected to be released as the March 20 ceremony approaches.
Tuberville said the facility will be driven by artificial intelligence.
