Lawrence County Government Website Revamped
Press release
The official website of Lawrence County Government has recently undergone a face lift and information overhaul that has made it more user friendly and informative to the citizens of Lawrence County.
The move is part of an ongoing effort to improve transparency within county government by utilizing technology.
"I am proud of the strides that we have made to increase transparency in county government through the use of our website," said committee Technology Committee Chairman Commissioner Chris Jackson. "When you visit the county's website now, you should be able to easily find just about anything related to county government," he adds.
Jackson notes this includes vital information about each county department, county officials, important county news, financial information such as previous budgets and audits as well as all major county policies.
Citizens can also now conduct a good deal of county business online including paying property taxes, renewing car tags, applying for a marriage license and registering to vote.
Aside from the information overhaul, the county has also focused on public engagement by setting up official Facebook and Twitter accounts. "Social media is a free tool that we can utilize to easily keep citizens up to date on issues going on within out county and to also solicit feedback from them," Jackson said. "We live in an age where things move fast, so it is imperative that we keep up with the times and embrace technology so we can be competitive in the 21st Century, he added."
