Vandal Hits West Point Property For Second Time
An Alabama resident contacted local law enforcement officials last week to report the same vandal had apparently returned to his West Point property to inflict further damages.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department had first been dispatched to the Story Road property of Florence, Alabama resident Jeff Wilcoxson a week prior, after a neighbor had informed him of the damages.
During that investigation deputies reported a 26 foot awning, enclosed trailer and a wooden fence with a gate had all sustained damage. Total loss at that time was estimated at $6,000.
Wilcoxson told deputies he had been contacted by a witness who had noticed a green Dodge truck pulling away from the property.
On Sunday, deputies were summoned to the property for a second vandalism call. Wilcoxson reported he had been contacted by the same witness, who reported seeing the driver of a green Dodge truck “cutting doughnuts” in his field.
The witness told deputies that the driver then ran over several feet of fencing, knocking the posts to the ground, knocked down a pavilion, then ran over a tree. At that point the suspect reportedly fled the scene. During the second vandalism incident Wilcoxson estimated damages to total some $20,500.
Deputies noted they were able to retrieve a tail light from the suspect vehicle that had fallen off the truck in the field. The light was taken into evidence. Investigation into the crimes is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
