Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded Sunday, March 1, 2026, to a report of a suicidal individual at 215 International Drive in Lawrenceburg

While deputies were on scene, the individual — identified as Steve Allen Bevis — returned to the residence in a Chevrolet pickup. Authorities say the truck accelerated in the driveway and struck two sheriff’s vehicles.

Bevis exited the vehicle with a pistol to his head but was talked into dropping the weapon. When he began walking back toward the driver’s side of the truck, a deputy observed he was unarmed and tackled him, taking him into custody.

A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered an additional Glock 9mm pistol.

Bevis was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident and is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court at a later date to face a charge of Attempted Murder.
