Small plane crashes into Center Hill Lake

DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Several DeKalb County authorities responded to a small plane crash Tuesday.

The DeKalb County Fire Department said a fisherman near Center Hill Lake witnessed an ICON A5 single-engine amphibious aircraft — which is designed to land in the water — crash at about 3:53 p.m. The plane was reportedly trying to land in the water near the north end of Holmes Creek when the crash happened.

No fire occurred, nor were any spills reported as a result of the crash.

The pilot of the aircraft and was able to remove himself from the plane; he sustained only minor injuries. He boarded the fisherman’s boat and did not require medical transportation.

Information about the crash has been reported to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency. The Smithville-DeKalb County Rescue Squad, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, the DeKalb County Emergency Medical Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Tennessee Wildlife Resouces Agency also responded to the crash.
