Subject: Vehicle in the Water/ Patient Trapped

At approximately 7:46 AM Lawrence County Fire Rescue units were dispatched by Lawrence County E-911 to Turnpike Road near Saw Creek Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries with the vehicle being in the water.

First arriving units confirmed a vehicle on its side in the cold water with the patient trapped inside. The vehicle was approximately 15 feet down a steep embankment below the roadway.

Our personnel utilized battery powered hydraulic rescue tools to partially remove the roof of the vehicle and extricate the trapped patient.

Our personnel along with Lawrence County Sheriff Deputies, and Lawrence County EMS worked together using a haul system and a 24’ extension ladder to raise the patient in a stokes basket back to the roadway for medical transport.

Lawrence County EMS personnel then transported the patient to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.
