Florence Man Charged In Burglaries At 38 Walmart Stores In Five States

A Florence man has been arrested on charges that he burglarized at least thirty-eight Walmart stores in five states during a crime spree that spanned more than two years.

Lawrenceburg Police Chief Judy Moore issued a press release Monday indicating that suspect Christopher Lynn Timbes, age 45, of Florence, Alabama is currently incarcerated at the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

According to Moore, local warrants have been obtained against Timbes charging him with the crimes of felony theft and vandalism. The charges stem from a September 12, 2013 theft from the Lawrenceburg Walmart store on North Locust Avenue.

During the crime, Moore indicates that the suspect pried open a cash register, making off with the cash contained inside. Department detectives have since been working the case. Moore said that they eventually identified the suspect as Timbes.

Moore reports that since 2011, Timbes is suspected of opening cash registers at Walmart locations in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana. Altogether, authorities indicate that he stole in excess of $50,000.

Timbes is awaiting extradition to face the local charges.
