Authorities Fear Cleaning Supply Sales Are Fraud
Law enforcement officials are attempting to determine whether a man who approached a Summertown home pedaling cleaning supplies Sunday, was actually attempting to perpetrate a scam.
The victim, a resident of Britney Circle, requested that an investigation be launched into the matter, about which she said she felt very uneasy.
The victim reported a man had come to her door around 6:30 p.m. holding a box of fabric softener. He told the resident that he was selling cleaning supplies, then offered items for sale.
The resident said that she informed the man she was not interested and he apologized for interrupting the family’s evening meal. He told the resident that he would come back at another time.
The resident said she again emphasized that she was not interested in the merchandise. She said the man then left, driving a white, 90’s model Chevrolet Suburban.
The victim told deputies she had become uneasy when the man failed to provide his name or the name of a company for which he worked. She said that she telephoned neighbors but that the man had not approached any of the other homes in the area.
The matter remains under investigation at the current time.
