ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — In the middle of the winter storm, with roads still covered in ice, paramedics in Robertson County were racing against the clock with lives on the line.
A mother had given birth at home as conditions turned dangerous.
Expecting mom and dad were hoping their baby boy could wait out the winter storm.
They were stuck in the house without power.
A 911 call came in saying, “41-year-old female gave birth to a child. The child is not breathing at this time.”
Robertson County EMS crews knew seconds matter.
“The sirens are blasting as youre going down the road,” Robertson County EMS Director Brent Dyer said. “At the same time, we are fighting tears, worried someone is going to lose their greatest treasure.”
Despite slick roads, paramedics get there fast.
“You find some superhuman strength when it comes time to move a tree out of the road when someone tells you on the other side of this tree and hill, there is a baby that is minutes old into this world and is about to leave it,” Dyer said.Mom and baby boy were checked out at the hospital, and all is good.
The family is home together with the power back on.
Dyer said it feels wonderful to know they were able to help.
Just hours earlier, paramedics said they helped out another family with a three-day-old in hypothermia because of a power outage.
