The Loretto police department are warning residents about a new scam involving the victim's phone account being hacked.

 

According to the Loretto Police Department they have received reports that two residents have fallen victim to a new scam that is currently going around that starts with your phone account being hacked.

The department stated that the scam involves the victim's phone account being hacked then a new phone is ordered, and sent to your home where once you elect to return the phone by mail it is sent overseas leaving the victim with the bill.

This scam has so far only involved AT&T customers, but the department stated that it is possible for this to spread to other service providers.

Authorities are warning residents that if you receive a new cell phone that you did not order to please take the phone to your local phone provider store to return it, and to prevent from being billed by this new scam.
