Chief Gives Run Down Of Local Crime
Lawrenceburg Police Chief Judy Moore addressed members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council Thursday morning, giving an overview of crime that has occurred inside the city during the past year, as well as educational work accomplished throughout the community.
Moore reported to councilmen that members of her department had participated in numerous public relations programs in past months, including providing demonstrations and programs involving the department’s drug detecting canines and programs designed to educate the public about bullying. Moore explained that the department uses monies from the sale of an annual police department calendar to purchase coloring books and various educational materials used in the programs.
Moore told members that members of her department have presented the programs to most area schools, kids fairs, Head Start, Buffalo River Services, at 5K runs, many club meetings, and to numerous scouting groups.
Moore gave a report regarding the numbers of calls answered by his department in past months. Altogether, Moore said her department answered 17,113 calls. They are categorized as follows:
Unwanted persons – 158
Harassment and threats – 460
Burglaries – 186
Assistance calls – 107
Fights – 175
Funeral escorts – 157
Larceny – 549
Burglar alarms – 655
Traffic stops – 5,547
Citations issued – 2,011
Armed robberies – 4
Arrests – 622
DUI arrests – 127
Wrecks without injury – 266
Wrecks with injury – 72
Traffic fatalities – 1
Domestic violence – 500 (with child/elder abuse and other calls factored in, Moore estimated this category to total well over 1,000)
Animal control calls – 692 (274 pickups – with 56 adoptions)
