"Good Samaritan” Credited With Saving Residents In Tuesday House Fire

A “Good Samaritan” is credited with saving the lives of residents who were sleeping when their home caught fire Tuesday.

According to a press release issued through the New Prospect Fire Department the individual, who wishes to remain anonymous, noticed the fire before smoke detectors began to sound.

The individual ran to the front door and awakened the residents, allowing them to escape without harm.

New Prospect Fire Department was dispatched to the home at 63 White Oak Drive shortly after 1:00.

Upon their arrival, Chief Tyler McDow reports that the fire had already spread throughout the home. High winds were wreaking havoc, causing flames to spread and present a threat to neighboring residences.

McDow reports that a “quick attack” was launched and firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from reaching other homes. Despite the windy, freezing conditions they were able to contain the fire. The home and contents, however, were declared a complete loss.

New Prospect was assisted in the operation by firefighters with the Lawrenceburg and Crawfish Valley Fire Departments.

Tanker units from both Crossroads and Gandy Fire Departments provided assistance due to poor water supply from the hydrants in that area. In addition, a unit from Giles County Fire and Rescue responded to the New Prospect Fire Station where they remained on standby.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Investigation is on-going at the present time.
