Early Dismissal

Lawrence County School System will dismiss at 1:15 P.M. Friday, January 23, 2026. EMA and local weather authorities are anticipating the possibility of extreme temperatures with various forms of frozen precipitation over the weekend with conditions lasting into next week. The early dismissal is to prepare campuses for conditions moving into our area. All afternoon activities are canceled for Friday afternoon, this includes extended school day offerings.

Teachers will be dismissed at 1:45 P.M.

11 & 12 month school based employees will be dismissed at 2:30 P.M.

The Central Office staff will be dismissed at 4:00 P.M. with the office closing at 4:00 P.M.

LCSS hopes early notification allows for parents and guardians to make arrangements for childcare.

After any seasonal weather event, please do the following:
•Stay off roadways when possible;
•If you must travel, leave home earlier than usual;
•Slow down when driving;
•Be mindful of black ice on roadways, walkways, entrances, etc.
•Do not cross low water bridges with rapid moving current;
•Be alert and drive safely
