Person’s body found in vehicle pulled from Cumberland River

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A dive team was called out to the Cumberland River in Montgomery County Friday morning to recover a vehicle, which contained a human and an animal.

The Montgomery County Fire Department posted on social media shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9 that its units, along with Clarksville Fire Rescue, Montgomery County EMS, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, had responded to a submerged vehicle in the Cumberland River around the Lock B South boat ramp.

According to officials, someone on a passing tug boat reported seeing a van enter the river near Lock B Road South early Friday morning.

After several hours of coordinated response efforts, the sheriff’s office said emergency crews recovered the vehicle from the water.

“A deceased female and a dog were located inside the vehicle,” authorities said, adding that the female has yet to be identified. The sheriff’s office said the Criminal Investigations Division is looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
