Huntsville Alabama Police Officer has been charged with capital murder in the death of his pregnant girlfriend.

 

According to reports Huntsville police officer, David McCoy, has been charged with capital murder after he shot his pregnant girlfriend, 26-year-old Courtney Spraggins.

Investigators on the case stated that the incident took place on Friday where they were dispatched around 11:00 a.m. at the request of the Huntsville Police Department to a death investigation at the Weston Ridge Apartments in Madison.

Sources report that Officer McCoy worked as a courtesy officer at the apartment complex, and had allegedly told dispatch the woman had committed suicide.

Upon investigators arriving at the scene, they noticed a photo of McCoy in the vehicle along with text messages on the victim’s phone providing more detail on what led to the incident.

On the same day, SBI Investigators charged McCoy with Capital Murder where Law Enforcement stated that 28 year old Huntsville Police Officer, David McCoy, who was off-duty at the time had reportedly shot his girlfriend in the head while she was inside a parked car.

The victim's family who identified Spraggins confirmed that the two were in a relationship and McCoy knew Spraggins was seven months pregnant with his child.

Madison County Coroner, Tyler Berryhill , stated on Saturday that an autopsy will be ordered for the victim, based on preliminary findings where the autopsy will be performed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences of Huntsville Regional Laboratory on Monday, January 10th.

At this time Officer McCoy is currently incarcerated at the Madison County Jail without bond.
