A crime ring is targeting home in Tennessee.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WSMV) - An international crime ring burglarized two homes in Brentwood over the Christmas holiday, targeting The Governors Club subdivision despite security measures including gates and security guards.

The burglars made off with jewelry and cash from the gated community. Not even the gate monitored by security guards was enough to keep out the group of burglars who targeted the subdivision days before Christmas.

“We’re not sure how they got into the neighborhood. Possibly in the back, it’s not completely secured off,” said Michelle Eriksen, a resident.

The Brentwood Police Department said the theft group typically parks in a different neighborhood and targets homes backed up to wooded areas. Police said the burglars hide out in wooded areas and wait for homeowners to leave before striking.

What police find more unsettling is that they say it’s a difficult crime ring to stop. Police say the group of burglars typically comes from the South American region and target high-end neighborhoods looking for valuables. After committing the crimes, they leave the state, making them hard to track.

“Police have done a great job patrolling and everything at night but it’s the perfect timing of catching someone,” Eriksen said

In May, three men from Chile were arrested in connection with similar crimes. However, police said a different group from the crime ring will come back to continue the pattern of burglaries.

Police are warning people in the area to avoid being a victim, it’s important to make yourself a harder target with home surveillance cameras and safes to lock up valuables.

“Everything stays in a safe of value with us. I feel like I’ve done all I can do in general,” said Eriksen.

Police said in some of the break-ins, the thieves have used jammers to disrupt the home surveillance signals. Because of this tactic, police said homeowners should invest in a wired home surveillance system to avoid a signal disruption.
