Burglar Calls Officer While Inside Home
Reports indicate that a burglar telephoned a local law enforcement officer while burglarizing his home Wednesday afternoon.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to investigate the burglary, which reported occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m.
When they arrived, the victim reported he had received a telephone call from a female acquaintance around 3:39 p.m. She allegedly told him she was inside his home searching for his son’s cell phone (from which she had placed the call).
The officer told deputies he instructed her to leave his home and not return. He indicated that she has been told repeatedly not to come to his home due to past conflicts.
When he, his wife and son arrived home from a meeting, he reports discovering the home had been burglarized. The cell phone was missing from the kitchen table and drawers in the home had been rummaged through.
In one bedroom, the victims report that a baby bed had been moved, ten diapers stolen, and $2,200 that had been concealed beneath the mattress was nowhere to be found.
Deputies report finding no sign of forced entry. Losses were estimated at $2,304.
Investigation into the matter has been turned over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
