Driver Strikes Building And Jumps Alley Fleeing From Police
A man fleeing from police officers overnight New Year’s Eve struck a Lawrenceburg business with his car, then jumped an alley before the chase came to an abrupt end.
Lawrenceburg Police Officers report they initiated a traffic stop on a green Ford truck shortly before 1:00 a.m. Tuesday when they noticed that the driver was traveling without headlights engaged.
When they activated their blue lights and sirens, officers report that the driver accelerated and fled. Radar readings indicate that the driver was traveling at speeds up to 82 miles per hour along North Locust Avenue.
Officers indicate that the driver attempted to turn east onto Second Street, but missed the turn and, instead, traveled down the sidewalk area along Locust. The driver then turned into the parking lot at CVS Pharmacy where reports show he struck the north side of the building, then drove along the sidewalk of the building, between the building and the support columns.
Officers report that the driver then jumped over the alley at the rear of the business, his truck coming to rest in a hedge row.
The driver, Van Coy Moore, Jr., age 41, of 415 Fourth Street, Lawrenceburg, was placed under arrest on numerous charges, including: first offense DUI, evading arrest, failure to yield to blue lights, violation of the state light law, violation of the state seat belt law, failure to provide proof of insurance, and speeding.
Moore allegedly told officers that he had been drinking at a local bar prior to the incident.
Moore is slated for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 1.
