University of Alabama student among those killed in New Orleans on New Year’s Day

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A University of Alabama student was among those killed in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.

According to UA President Stuart R. Bell, UA student Kareem Badawi was one of the individuals killed when a pickup truck drove into a crowd of people on New Orleans’ Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning.

“I grieve alongside family and friends of Kareem in their heartbreaking loss,” Bell said. “Our staff have been actively engaged in supportive outreach and the Office of Student Care and Well Being is available at 205-348-2461 or bamacares@ua.edu.
