FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Florence Police Department says a Guatemalan man has been arrested and charged with assault after a wreck where police say he was driving under the influence.
FPD said Martin Jimenez Miranda, 36, of Guatemala, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault and driving under the influence after a wreck that left two injured on Christmas.
The department said on Dec. 25, officers responded to a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Florence Boulevard and Broadway Street.
FPD said once officers arrived, they found a female driver and a juvenile girl trapped inside one of the vehicles. Once they were freed from the vehicle, it was found that one of them had sustained serious injuries, according to authorities.
The department said officers also located the second vehicle and the driver, identified as Miranda. FPD said officers observed indicators of impairment from Miranda and investigated, leading to his arrest.
Miranda was transported to the Lauderdale County Detention Center. Police said his bond was set at $8,000, but he is currently being held on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.
