Tribute To Deceased Relative Is Vandalized

Deputies were summoned to investigate on Friday after a Leoma resident reported an item that had been placed in tribute to her deceased daughter, had been stolen.

The victim reported that her son had recently placed a Christmas tree at the roadside on Old Florence Pulaski Road, in the area where her daughter had been killed in an automobile accident.

She said the tree was approximately five feet tall and weighed around 150 pounds.  She said it was constructed of rebar, with a base made from a steel I-beam, all painted green.

The victim reported that she had been contacted by a friend on Thursday, indicating that the tree was missing. She said that she went to the spot and discovered that all of the ornaments had been removed from the tree and thrown into the ditch.

The matter currently remains under investigation by detectives with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division.
