Shoplifting, Drug Charges Issued
Law enforcement officers responding to a shoplifting call Sunday arrested a woman on both shoplifting and drug charges.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report responding to Dollar General Store on Highway 43 in Ethridge where an employee reported a woman was in the process of stealing items.
Deputies report that when they approached the woman she was attempting to place a piece of merchandise into her purse, but quickly put it into her shopping cart when she spotted them.
They report that when they asked about other items inside her purse she, “Grabbed her purse and tried to conceal other items in it.”
During a search of the purse deputies report finding items that belonged to the business. The woman told them that she had placed them into her purse because, “She was unsure on whether she was going to buy them or not.” While searching her purse, deputies report finding a small container that had marijuana inside.
As a result of the incident Wendy Marie Fitzgerald, age 32, was placed under arrest on charges of theft of property and simple possession of marijuana.
