West Lawrence Home Lost In Wednesday Fire

Another home in West Lawrence County was destroyed by fire this week, this one situated on Waynesboro Highway.

Units with the West End, Gandy, Henryville and Crawfish Valley Fire Departments were called out around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Despite their diligent efforts, officials report the home was a complete loss. The situation was similar to one tackled by firefighters Sunday evening on Mallory Lane.

Fire officials said that the sole occupant of the Waynesboro Highway home was awakened by the sounding of a smoke detector. The resident was transported to Crocket Hospital for observation due to smoke inhalation.

The risk of household fire is increased during the winter months when residents begin to utilize various sources of heat.

Fire officials urge residents to check the batteries in all smoke detectors throughout their homes to ensure that they are functioning properly. They say that taking a few moments to do so, as in this case, could just save your life.
