Man Who Fled From Deputies At Bar Is Arrested With Drug Contraband

A local man was taken into custody on Tuesday after he fled from deputies at a bar, then tried to ditch drugs and various drug paraphernalia along his path of flight.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report they had made their way to BJ’s Bar on Powder Mill Hill Lane around 6:30 p.m. after receiving a tip indicating that a man, against whom they had outstanding warrants, was there.

Deputies report that when they entered the bar the man, Gregory Michael Doss, age 30, attempted to exit through the back door. When he saw a deputy outside he turned and fled out of the front.

Doss reportedly led deputies on a foot chase, fleeing for several yards. As he ran, they said he tossed several items later identified as drugs and related paraphernalia.

When they recovered the jacket that Doss had thrown deputies found a small metal can inside that contained approximately four grams of crystal meth, a Diazepam pill, and a spoon bearing drug residue and burn marks.

Other discarded items recovered include a pill bottle containing Soma, for which Doss had no prescription.

At that time Doss was arrested on the outstanding warrants charging him with violation of probation and failure to appear in court. He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. During transport, deputies report that Doss attempted to destroy evidence.

As Doss was removed from the patrol car deputies discovered he had attempted to crush a small blue pill and a crystal substance that field tested positive for crystal meth. Deputies report that Doss, “Had hidden these items on his body and was unable to be detected by a frisk search.”

During a search subsequent to incarceration, deputies found that Doss had numerous other drug related items concealed on his person. Items seized included four grams of crystal meth, Diazepam pills, Soma pills, a flash drive, pen camera, cell phone, and a marijuana roach.

Deputies report that, “All items other than the narcotics were taken as evidence due to them possibly having narcotic evidence on them.”

In addition to the initial charges Doss was booked under charges that include evading arrest, possession of Schedule II (meth) for the purpose of resale, possession of Schedule IV narcotics, simple possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Doss was incarcerated without bond. He was scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on January 7, 2014.
