Police Officers Nab Shoplifter Who Fled From Store

Police officers were able to nab a shoplifting suspect last week thanks to a tip from a nearby resident.

According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department officers were summoned to Walmart on North Locust Avenue around 1:20 a.m. Security personnel at the store reported that they had observed a man shoplifting items.

They said that once he had been discovered, he fled from the store on foot and concealed himself in some nearby bushes.

An officer who went to the adjacent Manor Drive Apartments reports that when he exited his car a female resident hung her head out of a window and called to him. She told the officer that a man was hiding in a stairway leading to some of the apartments.

Officers report that they found the suspect, Connis Derrick Blake, 29, of 1006 Chapman’s Crossing, Spring Hill hiding in the stairwell and that they, “Could tell that he had numerous items stuffed inside the front of his jacket.”

Blake reportedly confessed to taking the items from Walmart without paying for them. He was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked on a shoplifting charge. He was incarcerated in lieu of a $2,500 bond.

Blake will be required to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on January 3, 2014.
