Arrest Made In Stolen, Abandoned Truck Case

Police officials report that an arrest was made last week after a stolen truck was found abandoned near the suspect’s home.

John Hiram Benefield, III, age 42, of 304 Jackie Drive, Lawrenceburg was jailed at the Lawrence County Detention Center in connection with the investigation.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department report that the 2007 Ford F-150 had been reported stolen from Bobby Newton Auto Sales. On Monday the vehicle was found abandoned on Convent Road.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the scene to work the recovered vehicle case. Police officers report going to a nearby residence in an attempt to locate a possible suspect.

They found that Hiram, who was at the home, had outstanding arrest warrants and officers began to question him about the abandoned vehicle.

Reports show that officers recovered a key inside the residence that went to the stolen truck. While officers were speaking with him, they report that Hiram handed over a small box that contained two fake gold bars, a laptop computer, and other items.

All of the items had been reported stolen from the car lot, as well.
