Authorities Investigate Allegations Of Thefts By Employee

Law enforcement officials launched an investigation on Thursday into allegations that an employee was responsible for stealing, then pawning several items belonging to an east Lawrence resident.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that the victim, age 37, reported that the items had been stolen from his Powdermill Hill Lane home.

He told deputies that he had employed the thirty-two year old man as a favor to a relative.

The victim reported that during a two-week period he noticed that several items had gone missing including a hedge trimmer, chain saw, leaf blower, weed eater, and a five gallon container of gasoline. The items had a combined value of approximately $917.

The victim told deputies that he had been advised by acquaintances that the employee had pawned the items at a local pawn shop.

He said that he went to the pawn shop and was able to recover his hedge trimmer. While there, he said he discovered that the employee had pawned additional items at a second local pawn shop.

Investigation into the crime is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
