Erratic Driver Arrested On Drug Charges

A Lawrenceburg man was arrested on drug charges during the weekend after a police officer noticed that he was driving in an erratic manner.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that the officer was on his way to serve a warrant at a Fifth Street home around 6:00 a.m. Saturday when he noticed the driver of the GMC truck had engaged his hazard lights, then veered into the opposite lane of travel.

The deputy noted that the driver failed to stop at intersections, then stopped in the roadway where there was no intersection. George Gerard Katevas, age 45, was found to be operating the vehicle.

During the stop deputies report finding a bottle that contained one yellow pill with a heart on it, believed to be ecstasy.

When emptying his pockets, deputies report that Katevas was attempting to conceal in his hand a straw and coffee filter bearing a white powder residue. More coffee filters were found in his pocket along with addition drug residue.

Deputies indicate that during a field test the white powder tested positive for methamphetamine. Altogether they report seizing approximately one gram of meth.

Katevas was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of possession of Schedule II narcotics (meth) for the purpose of resale and possession of drug paraphernalia. His truck and laptop computer were seized as a result of the arrest.
