Woman Twice Assaulted Overnight Monday
An Iron City woman was assaulted not once, but twice by teenagers inside her Walnut Street home overnight Monday.
The thirty-two year old victim called deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to the scene after she had been assaulted by two male teens, ages 17 and 18. She told deputies that the teens had come to the home, “And started arguing over some pills.” She said that she was struck in the face several times. Deputies noted that she had sustained swelling around her left eye.
Although emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, the victim refused treatment at that time. She told deputies that she only wanted the incident to be documented at that point.
Just after midnight deputies were called back to the home after the victim was assaulted a second time. When they arrived, the victim told deputies that the culprit had fled through another door when they arrived. Deputies made contact with eighteen year old Brandon David Hand in the front yard and detained him.
Deputies spoke with the initial victim along with a second female victim, age 65. They reported that Hand had returned to the home shortly before.
They said that he had pushed the elder victim into the refrigerator, then over a coffee table “while trying to get at” the younger victim.
During the second assault the initial victim said Hand had “knocked her to the floor and punched her several times, then kicked her several times in the face.” She had sustained additional injuries to the face, including minor injuries to both eyes and both sides of her head.
The woman was transported to the emergency room for medical attention.
As a result of the incident Hand was arrested on charges of domestic assault and simple assault. He was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center to await a court appearance.
